Dining
Door County’s culinary influences date back to the 1800s when Icelandic, Scandinavian and European settlers began immigrating here, but the region’s position as a Midwestern culinary powerhouse is a development of the last few decades. These days, you can find everything from kid-friendly fast-casual spots, classic Wisconsin supper clubs, pubs serving gourmet burgers and wings to fine-dining restaurants embracing the latest in global food trends.
Breakfast in Fish Creek
Next door to Main Street Motel, Pellitier’s Restaurant & Fish Boil offers ample outdoor seating and oversized booth seating inside. Portions are generous and service is quick. Their County Mounty will satisfy even the heartiest of appetites. When you order coffee they bring a whole carafe – good morning!
Just a short walk down Main Street, enjoy White Gull Inn‘s award winning Door County Cherry Stuffed French Toast – winner of Good Morning America’s Best Breakfast Challenge! The historic inn’s restaurant offers so much charm and warmth – complete with wood burning fireplace!
Further north along Main Street, across from Fish Creek Beach, we love Blue Horse Beach Cafe for their specialty coffee drinks, breakfast sandwiches and handmade cinnamon rolls. Order at their register and your food is brought to your table – complete with a view of Fish Creek harbor!
Lunch in Fish Creek
Bayside Tavern is a Fish Creek icon, but did you know they also have great food? Local tip: try their Hot Turkey MJ sandwich or their pizza. Perfect for chilly Door County evenings, their signature boozy Bayside Coffee is just what the doctor ordered – t’s just as much fun to watch them make your drink (think fire show) as it is to drink it!
Across from Peninsula State Park’s main entrance, Wild Tomato serves wood-fired pizza and more. Inquire about their monthly Donation Creation pizza – a feature in which their kitchen comes up with a creative pizza to benefit a Door County nonprofit. They are also located in Sister Bay & Egg Harbor.
Dinner in Fish Creek
A tried and true local favorite, come as you are to Alexander’s of Door County – offering an elegant atmosphere with a casual feel. Local tip: their sushi-grade tuna is to die for, and don’t forget to order a boozy ice cream drink from their full bar after dinner
Barringer’s is a quick walk from Main Street Motel. We love their casual modern indoor/outdoor bar and wood burning outdoor fireplace. Local tip: try their Lemon Drop Martini or Asian Fried Brussel Sprouts!
The English Inn has the feel of an old elegant supper club with a beautiful outdoor patio with fire tables. Try their Spinach Salad with Hot Bacon Dressing… need we say more? They sell the dressing by the bottle, because you’ll definitely want to take some home with you!
